GREEN Mindanao Association, Inc.

GREEN is an acronym that stands for Geographic Rediscovery of Endangered Environment and Nature in Mindanao.

It is a non-profit association composed of professionals, volunteers like community and health workers, students, indigenous peoples, individuals and other groups

GREEN Mindanao [GM] started as a volunteer organization and was formally organized in 1991 into a non-profit organization. The members have been involved in mountaineering, tourism and survey. Later on, they reached out to remote communities and marginalized people. They provided training, advocacy, profiling and development works.

GREEN Mindanao Association, Inc. – is a non-profit environmental and cultural non-government organization (NGO) geographically based in Cagayan de Oro City at Mindanao Island situated in the Southern Philippines. It was founded on December 1991 by young professionals, students, and environmentalists from government and private agencies involved in wildlife conservation, agricultural extension, rural development communication and mountaineering. It was registered in the Philippine Government agency at Securities and Exchange Commission (S.E.C.) with Registration Number: CNO91-000756 CE05052, on August 2015 in compliance with new SEC regulation GREEN Mindanao applied for new registration (registration number CN201532582) .

Recent Projects

The Protection for Dinagat Island’s Threatened Endemic Species (ProDITES) project reaffirms the worthiness of the unique biological wonders that are inherent in the island. One of the smallest islands in the country with a total land area of 1,036.34 square kilometers, Dinagat is also recognized by Haribon and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as a Key Biodiversity Area and one of the 117 Important Bird Areas. Its endemic and threatened species i.e., the cloud rat was discovered in the 70s, and the 80s by prominent Filipino and international scientists.

Despite these discoveries in biodiversity however, the Philippine government (back in 1914 and in1939) had long declared the whole island—a mineral land reservation in view of its rich deposits of chromite …
